Red River Ferry at Miller’s Bluff

Millers Bluff Ferry was located about 1 mile north of where Louisiana Highway 2 crosses the Red River, west of Plain Dealing going to Hosston, This picture was taken by John H. Allen, of Plain Dealing, about 1910. The Miller bluff Bridge between Plain Dealing and Hosston was opened June 20, 1955. It was about a mile below the old ferry.

1921 Sanborn Fire Map – Hosston

The Sanborn Map Company produced fire-insurance maps starting in1867. The fire insurance maps show building footprints, building material, height or number of stories, building use, lot lines, road widths and water facilities. The maps also show street names and property boundaries of the time. This collection of maps is historically significant as it is sometimes the best detailed map of a town or city dating from the mid 1800s. 2019 Heritage and Harvest Tour

The Heritage & Harvest Tour, sponsored by the Red River Crossroads Historical Association, presents several attractions on Saturday 9/28/2019 – 10 am till 4 pm. $10 tickets are available at the Belcher Presbyterian Church, the Red River Crossroads Museum and any of the homes on the tour. redrivercrossroadshistorical.org/heritageharvest.
